Bridge To Kinder!

"Because of BTK, I have learned...how important it is to be more involved in my kids' education, school, and community to make a difference. We are our kids' biggest advocates and teachers."

And that's a wrap! We just completed another successful summer of Bridge To Kinder. Thank you to the staff, teachers, parents, and volunteers who made this program possible. From providing space, to helping register families, to cooking meals, and to teaching in classrooms, this was a team effort.

Bridge To Kinder (BTK) is an annual summer program organized by SOMOS Mayfair, in partnership with the Alum Rock Union Elementary School District and First 5 Santa Clara County. The goal is to prepare students and their families for the transition into Kindergarten.

SOMOS facilitators go through curriculum with parents (topics include positive parent engagement, literacy skills, stress management, etc) while ARUSD teachers work with students preparing for kindergarten and familiarize them with a classroom setting, group activities, motor skills, the alphabet and more. And as always, our amazing Escuelita team provides a fun educational space for other children. This all took place at 4 different sites this year!

It was great to see the relationships formed over the course of the month. Parent groups grew especially close--- BTK is a 4-week commitment, and groups met for 4 hours a day, 3 days per week.

One parent said that "because of BTK, I have learned so many things that will help strengthen and better my family dynamic. I have learned and realized how important it is to be more involved in my kids' education, school, and community to make a difference. We are our kids' biggest advocates and teachers. I have become a better parent and wife because of this program. Thank you to the facilitators foryour time, dedication, care and good hearts!"

Everybody was able to celebrate together at the end of the four weeks, with a big graduation potluck. Certificates were handed out, photos were taken, and there was great closure to an incredible month.
