Somos Mayfair is one of the growing numbers of organizations in the country providing direct services to the community and organizing residents to take collective action. In practice, our work takes form in three program areas:
- Engaging the community in dialogue: Using cultural arts - specifically popular theater - as tools for community education, we engage a broad cross-section of the community in on-going dialogue on the issues that most deeply impact our lives. Learn more about our Community Engagement program.
- Supporting families to meet basic needs: Building on
families’ inherent
strengths, we assist them in their efforts to be healthy
and to prepare their children for school success. We employ a team of
promotores (community educators) to work with over 200 Mayfair families each
year to support them in achieving their personal goals. Learn more about our Family Support program.
- Promoting civic action: We nurture a shared community
identity, foster interdependence among residents, and support collective
action to impact policies and build power. Learn more
