2009 Gracias a la Vida a Great Success
"Inspired!"
More than 320 guests joined Somos Mayfair in our 2nd Annual Gracias a la Vida Fundraising Luncheon on October 22, 2009. As the program began, the sun broke through the clouds, lighting up the faces of people as they entered the beautiful Mexican Heritage Plaza in east San José.
The event began with an invocation by Teatro Familias Unidas, Somos' resident theater troupe. In honor of this year's event theme, Sembrando El Futuro/Sowing the Future, the women walked through the crowd, offering 
their thanks and scattering rose petals representing the values of justice, education and respect. From noon until 1:00 p.m. guests heard from our Executive Director Jaime Alvarado, watched our newest video, Sowing our Future, about Somos’ impact on families, and heard testimony from a resident leader.
Thanks to all who attended and were inspired to support our work, and helped make this our most successful fundraising event to date!
2008 Gracias a la Vida Celebration

Somos Mayfair held our first annual benefit dinner and evening of storytelling on Thursday, October 23rd 2008. Well over 300 guests filled the Mexican Heritage Plaza Pavilion and spilled out onto the patio on a glorious, fall evening. Eating together family style, they shared thanks to life with one another.
Somos recognized Peter Hero, Silicon Valley Community Foundation Advisor, and former President of Community Foundation Silicon Valley for his efforts in launching the Mayfair Improvement Initiative.
Guests enjoyed live Veracruzano music, felt the power of Yosimar Reyes’ performance poetry (below) and were moved to tears by the courage of immigrant mothers in ¡Somos Mujeres, Somos Vida!/We are Women, We are Life! presented by Teatro Familias Unidas.
